Auf ewig und einen Tag
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Gregor (Fritz Karl) enters the rooms occupied by a business partner in the World Trade Center. At 9.15, the planes crash into the towers: panic, chaos, flight—only Gregor seems to make no attempt to save himself. It was Jan’s (Heino Ferch) idea to send his friend and partner to New York in order to arrange important business. As Jan worries about his friend, memories of their friendship intermingle: the first meeting of two boys from different milieus; Gregor’s still fruitless battle to gain his father’s (Henry Hübchen) recognition; challenges and defeats, chances and turning points in life. And memories of Elsa (Claudia Michelsen): their first love and simultaneously the first test of their friendship. Jan travels to New York to search for his friend, because hope dies last.
Brilliantly cast, expertly staged.
