After the death of her mother in a car accident, Lisa Taubenbaum (Anna Fischer), early 30s, leaves Berlin and returns home to picturesque Hepperlingen in Swabian Jura. Together with her father Andreas Taubenbaum (Hartmut Volle), who has been confined a wheelchair since the accident, conscientious Lisa tries to keep the family undertaker business afloat. But when an old school friend's grandmother dies a supposedly natural death, Lisa doubts the cause attested to in the death certificate and can't exclude third-party involvement with fatal consequences. Lisa's claim causes uproar in the otherwise peaceful and idyllic town, and turns her friend into an enemy. As Commissar Zellinger (Christoph Letkowski) from Stuttgart arrives in the godforsaken region and starts to investigate, Lisa's certainty is shaken. Her credibility too?
